February: Kitchen Safety & General Safety Training

Objective: Ensure all volunteers understand key kitchen safety protocols and general workplace safety.

Topics Covered:

  • Safe food handling and storage

  • Preventing slips, trips, and falls

  • Fire safety and emergency procedures

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) usage

March: Trauma-Informed Training

Objective: Equip volunteers with the knowledge and skills to work compassionately with individuals who may have experienced trauma.

Topics Covered:

  • Understanding trauma and its impact

  • Principles of trauma-informed care

  • Effective communication with trauma survivors

  • Creating safe and supportive environments

April: Addressing Secondary Trauma

Objective: Help volunteers recognize and respond to secondary trauma, which can arise from supporting those who have experienced trauma.

Topics Covered:

  • What is secondary trauma?

  • Signs and symptoms of secondary trauma

  • Strategies for coping and resilience

  • Accessing support resources

May: End-of-Year Celebration & Self-Care Reiteration

Objective: Celebrate the achievements and dedication of volunteers, with a special emphasis on self-care practices to support long-term well-being.

Activities:

  • Recognition ceremony for volunteers

  • Group self-care workshops (mindfulness, relaxation, wellness tips)

  • Social gathering with refreshments and fun activities
